The month that all Muslims in the world have been waiting for had come. In this year, Ramadhan is a bit different from the previous years as the multicultural Muslims community in UNSW which consists of students and staffs , will celebrate their Ramadhan while embracing the final exams of Term 1 in the first two weeks and enjoying the term break in the last two weeks of Ramadhan . The beginning of Ramadhan this year also marks the beginning of the final exams . However, may Allah grants us success during this blessing month as we grabbed this opportunity for us to be closer to Allah by performing good deeds without neglecting our studies.

ISOC UNSW like in previous years, runs a few functions during this month such as Iftars in uni and overseas, Taraweeh prayer and Qiyam-al-layl followed by Suhoor on the last 10 days of Ramadhan which was on the 25th night of Ramadhan.

The overseas Iftar was held at two different places, at an orphanage in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on the 18 May and in Lahore, Pakistan on the 25 May. The Vice Chancellor of UNSW, Ian Jacobs came to join us for our first Iftar which was sponsored by the Indonesian community, KPII on the 9 May and he wished everyone a Happy Ramadan! We would like to thank the university for valuing each culture on campus, we can all feel the family-like environment here.

The Taraweeh and Witr prayer was held every night of Ramadhan at a combined area which consists of the Lodge and musolla at the Squarehouse, UNSW. Light snacks and beverages were served to the people after the Witr prayer concludes. Students and staffs came for the Qiyam-al-layl prayer followed by Suhoor which they were served with a hot dog on the 30 May although it was still the term break. May Allah reward them for their ibadah towards Him. Ameen.

Alhamdulillah, despite the fact that half of the Ramadan falls into the term break, we still managed to have 15 Iftars this Ramadan.

Lastly , we would like to give our special thanks to the communities of Saudi, Pakistan, Oman, Indonesia, Brunei, Bangladesh, Iran, Jordan and Palestine for sponsoring Iftars at ISOC this year. May Allah SWT bless each and everyone of our sponsors and grant them success in both Dunya and Akhirah. Ameen.
