Eid al-Fitr Celebration
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar. Lā ilāha illà l-Lāh wal-Lāhu akbar, Allahu akbar walil-Lāhi l-ḥamd. The Takbeer that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadhan as the new month of Syawal embarks as soon as the new moon is sighted in the vast sky. This is the month of celebration as Muslims completed their one month of fasting. The Eid is celebrated by performing the Eid prayer which is perform in congregation (Jama’ah) during the morning , followed by a short sermon (khutbah) once the prayer is completed. Muslims from different countries around the world celebrated Eid differently according to their own unique tradition. Some of them wear new traditional clothes , visited their relatives and friends and even visited the graveyard to pray for the dead.
ISOC UNSW as an official Muslim Association at UNSW aims to provide a family-like environment in our society. As well as having Musallah and organising Iftar, we also provide facility for the Eid prayer. This year, we had our Eid Al-Fitr prayer at the Roundhouse UNSW, considering the day of Eid Al-Fitr fell into the exam period, we started Takbeer at 7:10 a.m. and Salat at 7:40 a.m. Khutbah was offered at 7:50 a.m. and after that a social gathering was held outside of the Roundhouse with Arabian snacks, beverages and lolly bags for children.
Alhamdullilah, the day of Eid Al-Fitr was nice and sunny this year. In the morning, our volunteers started preparing for this event at 6:30 a.m. and as the clock ticked to 6:40 a.m., our Muslim brothers and sisters gradually came and we all embraced each other with our Salam and Eid Mubarak. In addition, we offered the opportunity to pay for the Zakat Al-Fitr and our society sends the money overseas to support our brothers and sisters who are not in a good situation as us. After Khutbah, people came outside and enjoyed their Eid Al-Fitr with families, friends, schoolmates and teachers while they enjoyed a bit of snacks during daytime after abstaining from any food and drinks for the entire Ramadhan. The Eid event was concise but memorable. In Shaa Allah, the Eid Al-Adha is coming up this month and our society is on our way organising the Eid Al-Adha prayer.
